5 Skills of Emotional Intelligence

Relationships are incredible crucibles for learning skills of emotional intelligence. These are skills many of us haven’t necessarily had modelled for us, but they can develop over time with mindfulness and attunement.
Oh, and support!

These are 5 skills to work towards:

1 - the ability to reflect on your inner motivations and responses, and then communicate to those around you about this inner world

2 - the ability to read the moods of others and respond with care, even when they are being immature

3 - the understanding that your inner priorities and the demands of the world are often at odds, yet still giving time and energy to trying to find an accomodation between them

4 - the ability to accept the fundamentally tragic structure of life, whilst still finding ways to hope and be grateful.

5 - the ability to understand the ways we are personally crazy, inadequate and infuriating, and still communicate this to the people in our lives with self-compassion, apology and charm, so that they can also understand how to manage being close to us.
